What we do

We believe everyone, everywhere deserves equal rights

Since Stonewall was established in 1989, it has been front and centre in the long march for equality. We have led the charge for an equal age of consent, for inclusive education, for ending the ban on LGBTQ+ people in the military and for establishing equal rights to family life and to marriage.

We haven't done any of this alone. We have always relied on the support of our community, the generosity of our donors and patrons, and the allyship of lawmakers, business and the third sector to help us shape policy and create legislative frameworks and a culture where everyone is treated fairly.

We don’t take progress for granted. We know more change is necessary as well as urgent. The current gap in equality protections for trans+ people undermines their ability to live full and dignified lives, while LGBTQ+ hate crime is rising, discrimination continues to impact LGBTQ+ people while at work or at play, and young people still fear anti-LGBTQ+ bullying in schools.

Once a world-leader, the UK is losing its status as a progressive, tolerant and accepting country. Our vision is a world where everyone everywhere has equal rights. We will keep working until every person is living free from discrimination, prejudice and inequality.

And we want you to help us.
Together, we can turn the world we imagine into the world we live in.
