Tackling bullying in schools with Diversity Role Models

Every young person deserves to feel seen, valued and accepted for who they are

Diversity Role Models and Stonewall are working together to end anti-LGBTQ+ bullying in schools and build a generation that leads with inclusion and empathy.

Diversity Role Models delivers inspiring workshops to young people in classrooms across the country, alongside expert-led training for the adults around them. Every session features an inspiring story from a volunteer Role Model, creating safe spaces where young people can explore difference, challenge discrimination, and reflect on their role in building a world where everyone feels seen, valued, and accepted.

Why does this matter?

Diversity Role Model’s 2024 report  found that bullying related to sexuality and gender remained with the most prevalent forms of bullying identified by young people themselves.

As many as 45% of secondary students noted that pupils who are gay, or thought to be gay, are bullied at their school. The research also found that trans and non-binary young people were 74% more likely to note that transphobic bullying occurs in their school.

The impact of bullying cannot be underestimated. It leaves young people feeling isolated and unsafe at school. Tackling it means changing how all students understand difference, and how they treat each other.

Our shared vision

Earlier this year, Diversity Role Model’s joined the Stonewall family - Stonewall provides operational support, national infrastructure and additional resources to ensure we can reach as many schools as possible.

Together, we want to create an education system where every young person knows they belong.

Every child deserves to grow up feeling seen, valued and accepted for who they are. That belief drove Stonewall’s campaign to repeal Section 28, and it matters just as much today.
