Why leave a gift in your will to Stonewall?
Thank you for considering leaving a gift in your will to Stonewall
We know it's a big decision and we really appreciate you taking the time to consider supporting us in this special way.
With your support, we can create a world to be proud of, together.
Our work
Thanks to our supporters, we’ve been involved in every major social and legal battle for LGBTQ+ equality in the UK for over 30 years, including:
- The end of Section 28
- LGBTQ-inclusive teaching in the national curriculum
- An equal age of consent for gay and bi men
- Civil partnerships and marriage for same-sex couples
- LGBTQ+ couples being legally recognised as parents
- Same-sex couples becoming free to adopt children
- LGBTQ+ people becoming free to serve openly in the Armed Forces
- Protection from discrimination at work
We have travelled a path from Section 28, and the total suppression of LGBTQ+ identities in schools, to children learning about our lives, families and relationships as part of the national curriculum in most of the UK.
We’ve gone from a world where our relationships were criminalised to one where we have equal rights to love. And, for those of us who want to, equal rights to marry or have children.
But we know more change is desperately needed. We all have a part to play in creating a world where everyone, everywhere can be themselves and your legacy gift could make all the difference.

- How a gift in your will can help
Thanks to gifts in wills, Stonewall can continue to support the LGBTQ+ community by:
- Partnering with thousands of leading employers to ensure workplaces are safe and accepting places for all LGBTQ+ people.
- Working with thousands of teachers and their schools to help them tackle anti-LGBTQ+ bullying and put the wellbeing and support of LGBTQ+ students at the heart of our education system.
- Running campaigns like Rainbow Laces, with over one million LGBTQ+ people and allies lacing up to make sport everyone’s game.
- Partnering with international organisations who provide vital support to LGBTQ+ people in countries around the globe.
- Commissioning and conducting new research into the lives of LGBTQ+ people, providing evidence to governments that LGBTQ+ people still need more support in areas across healthcare, hate crime and housing.
- Campaigning for vital legislation to protect our communities.
- The power of your gift
- A gift of £5,000 in your will could fund a future global project to protect and support victims of LGBTQ+ hate crime.
- A 5% share of a £200,000 estate could help produce powerful campaigns that force vital legislative action like an inclusive ban on conversion therapy.
- A legacy of £15,000 could help extend our Rainbow Laces campaign to make sport everyone’s game.
Will's story

Stonewall’s work has become particularly meaningful to me since I came out as trans. Suddenly and out of necessity, I have been launched into wanting to advocate for myself and for my community as well.
LGBTQ+ people really need Stonewall and its values of equality, and freedom to live our lives with dignity.
That’s why I am leaving a gift in my will to Stonewall - we can all benefit from supporting each other and fighting to ensure the past is not repeated.
Beyond this, perhaps more than anything else, I hope that one day there is a global recognition that transphobia in any form is unacceptable. I hope the gift in my will to Stonewall will enable it to continue its work spreading awareness and creating this world in the years to come.
Will, (they/he) Stonewall Lifelong Friend
Howard and Rod's story

We think we were the first gay men to foster, and it was the best thing we ever did. We became civil partners on the first day it was possible and later married on the first possible day.
We strongly believed in doing that, not only for ourselves but because Stonewall was instrumental in getting both on the statute book.
Despite the progress that’s been made, there’s still so much to do. It may be several generations from now until Stonewall can truly say ‘job done’, especially internationally. Leaving a gift in our wills is our way of supporting the future of all our fellow LGBTQ+ citizens.
They have a huge effect on our lives and on the LGBTQ+ community. We feel more valued, more confident, and that we can play a role in society without having to hide in the shadows."
