School and College Role Models: videos and lesson packs

Young LGBTQ+ people need to see themselves reflected in the teaching they receive so that they can feel safe, seen and heard at school and college. It’s important for all of us to learn about the value of diversity. 

That’s why we’re delighted to partner with Burberry to produce School Role Model videos for secondary schools and colleges: real LGBTQ+ people sharing their stories and reflecting on their experiences growing up. These videos, available in full to Stonewall School & College Champion members, will help LGBTQ+ young people imagine happy, fulfilled futures for themselves, and deepen understanding amongst their allies.

Miki's story

Miki talks about her experiences growing up in a religious community as a lesbian. 

Khakan's story

Khakan talks about his experiences as a South Asian Pakistani gay Muslim.

Darren's story

Darren talks about positive experiences of being supported in the workplace as a gay person.

Philip's story

Philip talks about being an LGBTQ+ Christian, being part of the General Synod of the Church of England and living with HIV. 

Andreena's Story

Andreena talks about her experiences as a Black lesbian woman and her career as a writer and lived experience speaker. Content note: this video mentions trauma and living with post-traumatic stress disorder. There are no descriptions or details of traumatic events.

Jessica's Story

Jessica talks about her experiences as a trans woman.

Content note: this video mentions drug and alcohol misuse, mentions of transphobia, and mentions of suicide. There are no descriptions of traumatic events. We recommend this video for post-16 education settings due to the subject matter. We advise that educators watch the video first to decide if it is appropriate for their education setting.

Clara's Story
