Responding to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) opening their consultation following the Supreme Court ruling, a Stonewall spokesperson said:
"After weeks of confusion, we welcome the opportunity for businesses, employers, the LGBTQ+ community and politicians to submit their views to the EHRC.
"Any consultation must be robust, comprehensive, and transparent. However, the length of consultation falls far short of the standard 12 weeks, and we would have expected the full Code of Practice to have been published rather than sections of it. It remains unclear why the EHRC feel it necessary to take this approach and how they have chosen which parts of the Code of Practice to include.
"Everyone affected must have their voices heard and Stonewall will support stakeholders to participate in a meaningful and comprehensive way despite the hasty and opaque process being led by the EHRC."
