Children and Young People's Services Champions programme

Our Children and Young People's Services (CYPS) Champions programme helps local authorities and children and young people's organisations put LGBT inclusion at the heart of their services to support children and young people.

We’ll help to devise innovative, bespoke solutions based on your organisation's needs to better support vulnerable LGBT children and young people as well as improve their health and wellbeing. You can access a wealth of expert support including tailored advice, training, and resources as well as tools to evaluate and improve your policies and practices.

You’ll also have a range of learning opportunities, such as our Children and Young People’s Conference and an annual seminar exclusively for our members.

Why does it matter?

  • 84% of trans young people have self-harmed. For lesbian, gay, and bi young people who aren’t trans, 61% have self-harmed
  • 45% of trans young people have attempted to take their own life. For lesbian, gay and bi young people who aren’t trans, 22% have attempted to take their own life
  • Just 40% of LGBT young people have an adult at home they can talk to about being LGBT

Working with Stonewall has been an invaluable driver for the local authority and our key partners to support schools and other settings to be LGBT-inclusive. We hugely value the excellent self-evaluation tool, which has helped to support our improvement year-on-year.
