Stonewall calls on Conservative leadership candidates to respect Rainbow Britain

As the Conservative Party enters a leadership election, Stonewall is calling on all candidates, their supporters and the media to ditch the divisive ‘culture war’ and promote values that bring Britain’s diverse communities together. 

Britain takes pride in being a tolerant family of nations. Just two thirds of Britons are exclusively straight, three quarters of us are closely connected to a lesbian, gay or bi person, and 1 in 4 of us know a trans person. 

LGBTQ+ people and our close friends and family members come from every part of society, and we live in every part of Britain.  

Now is the time for inclusive values and policies that bring communities together and unleash the potential of all. 

Ban conversion practices for everyone, remove the barriers to us to forming families, challenge rising hate, improve legal recognition for all LGBTQ+ people and our relationships, and champion LGBTQ+ rights on the global stage.  

A more inclusive Britain is good for communities and businesses across the country, and important for Britain’s position as a global leader.
