International advocacy
Getting LGBT human rights on the agenda often means working those in power to get things right.
At Stonewall we're committed to engaging with key international players, including the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the United Nations (UN) and the World Bank, to ensure that LGBT people everywhere get the protection and support they need.
Engaging the UK Government
We regularly connect LGBT rights groups overseas with UK Government representatives in London, and in their home countries. In turn, we encourage the UK Government to support them and advise on best practice, including in crisis situations. United Nations
We currently engage with UN institutions at various levels, including policy work around the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), the Human Rights Council (HRC), and the post-2015 development agenda. Our work is mostly focused on encouraging the UK Government and its allies to consistently defend LGBT rights within these institutions, but we also contribute to the development of best practice more broadly.
Development
We're passionate that the development sector has a key role to play in ensuring LGBT people are not left behind when programmes are designed and delivered. We will be updating this section of the site in the coming weeks.
