Jade Thirlwall surprised 50 young LGBT people at Stonewall’s Youth Pride event in Manchester on Saturday, 25 August.

While the young Stonewall group were getting ready to march, the Little Mix star walked in to announce she’d be joining them at the front of the parade. Jade also spoke to the group about how thrilled she was to march with them and how proud she is to be an ally to the LGBT community.

The singer said: ‘There is no place I’d rather be than here, marching with all of you. It means so much to me to be at Manchester Pride with Stonewall and show how proud I am to be an ally to the LGBT community. I’m so inspired by all of you and can’t wait to do more as part of the Stonewall family.’

Wearing one of Stonewall’s ‘Come out for LGBT’ t-shirts, Jade’s appearance also wowed parade watchers who caught glimpses of the singer as she walked by.

Each year, Stonewall’s Youth Pride events bring young people together and takes them to Pride; many for the first time. These events are open to anyone aged 16 to 21 and Stonewall covers travel costs and provides food for everyone.

Kindly supported by Lloyds Banking Group, the charity hosted six events this year for 300 young people at Birmingham Pride, UK Black Pride, Bristol Pride, Trans Pride Brighton, Cardiff Pride and Manchester Pride.

Stonewall Youth Programmes Manager Wayne Dhesi said: ‘It’s amazing to be able to offer so many young people the chance to attend Pride through our Youth Pride events with the support of Lloyds Banking Group. For many of them, it’s not just their first Pride, but it’s also the first time they’ve been around other LGBT people. Knowing you’re not alone can make a world of difference in the lives of young lesbian, gay, bi and trans people.

‘We’re also incredibly grateful to have Jade as part of the Stonewall family. She’s a proud ally and cares so deeply about creating a better world for LGBT people. With the help of allies like Jade, we get closer and closer to a world where everyone can be accepted without exception.’
