‘This sell-out night was a fantastic way for guests to show support for Stonewall’, said Laura Doughty, Stonewall Director of Fundraising and Communications. ‘It was the perfect opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come thanks to the bravery and dedication of Stonewall founding members. But we also looked ahead at how much more we want to achieve by invigorating new supporters of Stonewall’s campaigning for equality – at home, at school and at work.’

The event raised over £6,000 for Stonewall’s Education for All campaign, which tackles homophobic bullying in Britain’s schools.

Anniversary

Stonewall.............thank God for you! I well remember the early days. It is quite difficult to relate to young people nowadays about the discrimination and life we faced before '89 and the differences for us today. Not everything is perfect and the fight goes on. I joined forces with a friend of mine to create a training organisation in '89 to provide an in sight into gay and lesbian issues in social work practice to statutory and voluntary organisations and higher education centres - Triangles, Birmingham. Just to say the registration of our company was on the eleventh day of the eleventh month - another significant day in our history. I know that our agenda was gratefully received by social workers, managers, students. It was great fun. Without the national pressurising by Stonewall I doubt if training managers or budget holders would have gambled on such training. Angela Mason gave us encouragement. We were particularly concerned about the plight of young lesbians and gays at school and in care and we focused in on breaking the mythes and sterio-typical attitudes of carers, teachers parents, and friends. As I say great fun but admitting that it is/was a very seriuos topic. Good luck Stonewall! Bill Marsden aged 62yrs and one day!
