UK Black Pride Event Manager

Role description

UK Black Pride and Stonewall are working together in a partnership designed to encourage growth, learning and collaboration, and which will support the empowerment of Black LGBTQ people and QTIPOC in the UK.

Since its founding in 2005, UK Black Pride has become Europe’s largest celebration for LGBTQ people of African, Asian, Caribbean, Latin American and Middle Eastern descent. It has also stayed true to its mission to centre, prioritise and celebrate Black LGBTQ people and QTIPOC in a movement that owes much to them.

Stonewall has always supported UK Black Pride, both in mission and delivery. To reaffirm that commitment, Stonewall has committed funding and resources to help UK Black Pride’s annual event continue to grow. This partnership has created an exciting new position within Stonewall to fulfil: UK Black Pride Event Manager.

UK Black Pride Event Manager, London

Salary: £35,904

Full time: 35 hours

You will report to the Executive Director of UK Black Pride with day-to-day support from Stonewall’s Head of Community Engagement.

You will take the day-to-day lead in delivering UK Black Pride’s annual event. This demanding and rewarding role will include working closely with both the UK Black Pride and Stonewall teams to ensure UK Black Pride’s flagship event continues to grow in size and impact, and to ensure that UK Black Pride’s vision for this important event is met. Your role will also include community outreach, satellite event planning and delivery around the UK, and relationship-building with key stakeholders in Black LGBTQ and QTIPOC communities across the UK.

Your role opens up space for members of the core UK Black Pride team (all of whom volunteer) to commit more time and resource to the growth and development of the organisation, its mission and its reach.

We are looking for a proactive and self-starting project manager; you are a natural problem-solver who has great attention to detail and remains calm, effective and responsive under pressure. Crucially, you are an intersectional thinker who is attuned to the needs of a diverse group of people with varied interests, privileges and positionalities. You will be a great communicator with excellent listening skills and work in a collaborative way to achieve goals.

The work undertaken by UK Black Pride and Stonewall is deeply personal for many involved, and the opportunity to work alongside such passionate and determined people is transformative. It is here, where passion and heart meet skill and determination, that we’re able to create culture-shifting work that moves us all closer to equality – and we have not achieved equality until every LGBTQ person, of every colour, ethnicity, belief and background is able to enjoy equality in every aspect of life. So, if like us, you want to help change the world, we’d love to hear from you

At Stonewall we want you to feel involved in all aspects of our work and to have amazing opportunities during your time with us . Everyone is accepted for who they are, regardless of age, disability, gender identity, marital status, race, faith or belief, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, and whether you’re pregnant or on family leave. In line with Stonewall’s commitments to race equity and trans inclusion, we are particularly seeking applications from People of Colour/ BAME people and/or trans people. Stonewall has a number of staff network groups which provide peer support and safe spaces for staff who hold these and other identities.
