Building an Inclusive Environment

Stonewall seminar to discuss LGBT experiences, homophobia and inclusion in the construction industry

More than 60% of LGBT employees working in the construction and property industry have experienced homophobia/biphobia/transphobia in the past year, a figure which rises to over 80% for those who work on construction sites. Less than half trust their line managers to handle sexual orientation issues, and just one in ten would recommend the construction industry to other LGBT colleagues.

These were just some of the facts thrown up by a ground-breaking investigation into the experiences of LGBT employees in the construction industry, led by trade publications Architects’ Journal, Construction News and New Civil Engineer.

The Construction Industry employs 10% of the workforce and contributes almost £90bn to the UK economy. It is, therefore, imperative to make sure that businesses attract and retain the best talent.

Stonewall is organising a seminar on 30th November to explore the challenges that LGBT employees face in construction, and to discuss solutions implemented by progressive businesses in the industry.

This seminar will be relevant to all those interested in LGBT inclusion and working in the wider construction and property industry, including architecture, contracting, engineering, property and surveying.

Please sign up for the event to register your interest and we will confirm your attendance at a later date.
