Earlier this week we found out that Douglas Slater, a co-founder of Stonewall, had sadly passed away.
Below is a statement from Sir Ian McKellen, a fellow founder of the organisation, on Douglas and the part he had to play in securing equality while involved in Stonewall.
'Douglas Slater was an indispensible advisor to the other co-founders of Stonewall. As a senior clerk in the House of Lords, he could anticipate Government policy and attitudes toward gay people as Section 28 wormed its poisonous way through parliament.
Stonewall could not have been so successful at the outset, without his dedication and brilliant mind.'
