Top Ten Tips for completing the Workplace Equality Index

1. Read through all the questions and be aware of where you will be prompted for supporting evidence.

2. Read the WEI Guidance which clarifies what each question is looking for or get in touch with your point of contact in the Workplace Team.

3. Look at the WEI questionnaire as an end of year audit for your work over the previous year. Completing the WEI is your self assessment of how you are doing.

4. Keep a file over the course of the year of evidence and use the WEI to pull this together

5. Don’t claim for work not in place, such as work taking place after the 4th September deadline.

6. Where you do claim under a question, be sure you reference this to supporting evidence – include a list of supporting evidence demonstrating which evidence relates to which question and highlight relevant sections.

7. Have a lead person for completion of the WEI but ensure the submission process includes the employee network group, diversity leads and senior champions to provide a full picture of work going on.

8. Tell us about all the work you have done that relate to the question and remember we don’t know all the processes of your organisation, so explain the obvious to us!

9. Take advantage of opportunities available – for example, Pride is a good time to engage with the LGB community to gain feedback on improving your services/product, and LGBT History Month is a good opportunity to engage with non-LGB staff and raise awareness of LGB issues, and
