Brighton Marathon 2011

Thank you!

Thank you to the eight Stonewall supporters who ran for Stonewall in the 2011 Brighton Marathon. Together they raised an amazing £7,000!

Lance Corporal James Wharton, one of the eight supporters, completed the Brighton Marathon in 4 hours 52 minutes.

A slightly tired James Wharton said after the marathon: ‘It was a pleasure to run for a cause I’m passionate about – although pounding the streets in camouflage trousers and army boots in temperatures over 20 degrees was as hard as any army mission I’ve completed!’

The money raised will go towards Stonewall’s Education for All campaign, which tackles homophobic bullying in Britain’s schools. Nine in ten teachers say their pupils currently experience homophobic bullying, but nine in ten have never received any training on how to tackle it. James Wharton, who has served in Iraq, is currently touring schools nationwide on behalf of Stonewall as a positive gay role model. He’s giving assemblies and chatting to teachers and pupils about joining the army and Stonewell’s anti-bullying campaign.
