‘Going on the Leadership Programme has become one of the key turning points in my life. Arriving at a junction in my career, it gave me the space to review and understand where I had come from, before moving off in a positive direction. Put simply, this was the best course I have ever been on and helped me make a fundamental and positive shift in the way I look at myself, my skills, and my aspirations. Don’t hold back as this is a safe space to understand how your life experiences shape who you are as a leader. Grab the opportunity with both hands!
Being myself at work is my strength as a leader. Getting the best out of myself and the people I manage means I will have a bigger personal impact in helping to tackle climate change. I believe that a good leader and manager understands themselves and invests something personal in the way they get the job done. At my best I am an enthusiastic and dynamic leader, driven to put my ideas in to practice. Being myself means other people will see my strengths driving my successes and understand me as a leader whose personal principles they can believe in and trust.’

‘The Leadership Programme is a tremendous learning opportunity, and I would recommend it to everyone! I would say: be serious about what you want to achieve, and don’t think that you are just going to be told what “leadership” is. This Programme is the best I have ever participated in, and focuses on you as a leader rather than trying to force theories onto your behaviours.
Since the Programme, I have pushed myself harder in my career and personal life. I am applying to stand in the next Local Council Elections, I am the Event Organiser for York Pride 2010, and all of this whilst pushing myself harder within my role in Aviva, in which I have recently been promoted. What has really complemented the Programme are the friends I have made – whenever I need to speak to someone, and reflect back on what I learned in the two days, I can pick up the phone to a number of people, and know their support is on hand.’
