Champagne and canapé reception at the Royal Pavilion, Brighton, Thursday 4th December, 7-9pm.
Stonewall are delighted to invite you to a champagne and canapé reception at the splendid Royal Pavilion in Brighton on Thursday 4th December from 7-9pm with Sir Ian McKellen, and writer and director Rikki Beadle-Blair.
All money raised from ticket sales will go towards creating an educational DVD based on FIT, Rikki Beadle-Blair's acclaimed theatre in education production.
FIT is a bold new play about attempting to fit in and trying to stand out, in a culture where everything from not liking sport to wearing the wrong trainers is 'gay'. Hip-hop dance, original music and sparky comedy combined in a show that has entertained adult audiences and young people alike.
FIT was commissioned by Stonewall to tackle the growing problem of homophobic bullying in Britain's schools. The play has been performed in over 75 schools, reaching around 10,000 students.
Young people's experiences form a litany of name-calling, physical violence, threats and isolation, affecting their self-confidence and self-esteem and, ultimately, their happiness and productivity at school. FIT on DVD will provide the tools with which to reach every single secondary school in Great Britain, educating teachers and pupils alike on the issue of homophobic bullying.
In schools that have clearly stated homophobic bullying is wrong, gay young people are 60% less likely to be bullied*.
Brighton's Royal Pavilion offers a fantastic setting for this champagne and canapé reception and we do hope to see you there. Entry is strictly with ticket only.
Tickets are priced at £55.00. For more information and to book your tickets contact Bimla Safka on 020 7593 1875 or email Bimla.Safka@Stonewall.org.uk.
