 Fit

FIT is a new play for young people from acclaimed writer/director Rikki Beadle-Blair.

Tegs and Jordan are best friends, an odd couple at the centre of everyone’s gossip. Ryan and Isaac are pre-occupied with who’s gay and what’s gay – and it certainly ain’t them. Lee and Carmel are feisty girls, with a few secrets of their own. Stuck together on a bus heading for a college dance contest, hormones run wild and truths tumble out as the group banter and bicker their way up the M1.

FIT is a bold new play about attempting to fit in and trying to stand out, in a culture where everything from not liking sport to wearing the wrong trainers is ‘gay’. Hip-hop dance, original music and sparky comedy combined in a show that has entertained adult
audiences and young people alike.

FIT was commissioned by leading gay equality organisation Stonewall and queerupnorth International Festival to tackle the growing problem of homophobic bullying in Britain’s schools. The play was performed in over 75 schools, reaching over 10,000 students accross the UK. As well as schools, FIT has been performed elsewhere across Britain, including Scotland's annual celebration of lesbian and gay culture Glasgay, and Liverpool's Homotopia festival.

Rikki Beadle-Blair had previously achieved critical acclaim for hits such as Bashment (Theatre Royal Stratford East), Stonewall (BBC Films) and Metrosexuality (Channel 4).

FIT was a queerupnorth and Stonewall co-production, produced in association with Drill Hall and co-commissioned by Drill Hall and Homotopia. Kindly supported by JPMorgan Foundation, Arts Council England, and John Lyon’s Charity.
