One is Gay Banner

One is Gay.
If that bothers people, our work continues.

In response to the 2.4 million people of working age witnessing verbal homophobia bullying in the workplace Stonewall has launched its new campaign across Great Britain. We’re asking organisations across the country to help us tackle homophobia in the workplace.

The Problem

Each year Stonewall publishes its Top 100 employers list which celebrates the companies which have made real progress in achieving equality for lesbian, gay and bisexual people. While recognition of these achievements is important it’s vital that we don’t let it overshadow the work that is still to be done. At Stonewall, we know that people perform better when they can be themselves. That’s why it’s vital that we tackle homophobia in Scotland’s workplaces. From our research we know;

  • 2.4 million people of working age across Great Britain have witnessed verbal homophobic bullying at work (YouGov)
  • 162,000 Scots of working age have witness verbal homophobic bullying at work (Living Together, Scottish attitudes to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in 2012)
  • 54,000 Scots of working age have witness physics homophobic bullying at work (Living Together, Scottish attitudes to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in 2012)
  • Only 64% of LGB employees are open with all colleagues in their workplace (Workplace Equality Index 2013 Staff Feedback Survey)

The Campaign

Stonewall has launched its new campaign which is specifically aimed at tackling homophobia in the workplace.
Campaign posters will appear on nearly 650 buses in London, Cardiff and Edinburgh as well as on 4,000 adverts on the London Underground. The campaign features lesbian, gay and bisexual workers from across various careers and professions – including construction workers, footballers, priests, police officers and firefighters. Campaign posters will be made available to Stonewall Diversity Champion members and is calling on organisations to tailor with their logos and reproduce in workplaces and offices.
