The Adoption and Children (Scotland) Act 2007 has finally come into effect, which allows same-sex couples to jointly adopt a child, and one partner in a same-sex couple to adopt the other partner's child.
And the Looked After Children (Scotland) Regulations 2009 also came into force, which allows same-sex couples to be considered as foster parents on the same basis as anyone else.
These changes, combined with other laws, mean that from 28th September all adoption and fostering agencies must give equal opportunities to same-sex couples as they do to mixed-sex couples.
