Barclays today receives the award for Top Employer in Scotland for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff. Barclays is the highest placed Scottish employer on Stonewall’s Top 100 Employers 2013 which showcases Britain's best employers for gay staff, featuring six Scottish employers.
The second best placed Scottish employer is Lloyds Banking Group and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service comes third. Clydesdale Bank is awarded the Scottish Network Group of the Year and Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service is awarded Most Improved Employer of the Year. Royal Bank of Scotland also made the Top 100.
Full results of the 2013 Stonewall Top Employers list will be announced at a ceremony held tonight (February 7) in Edinburgh hosted by Creative Scotland.
Colin Macfarlane, Director of Stonewall Scotland said: ‘Every employer in the Top 100 has performed impressively. These results are significant as it’s just ten years since we won vital legal protections for gay people in the workplace. By seeking to recruit, develop and retain the very best talent regardless of sexual orientation, the Scottish employers featured in the Top 100 are helping to make our workplaces fair and equal in our lifetime.’
Valerie Soranno Keating, CEO, Barclaycard and global LGBT sponsor for Barclays, said: 'This recognition is a clear symbol of the importance Barclays places on creating an inclusive environment for all of our colleagues, regardless of background. This ranking highlights Barclays overall commitment to diversity and inclusion as well as the strength of our ongoing partnership with Stonewall and the larger LGBT community.'
The index is based on a range of key indicators which include a confidential survey of lesbian, gay and bisexual employees, with nearly 9,000 participants. This consistently revealed that the satisfaction levels of gay staff were highest at the top-ranking organisations in the Index.
