
Many organisations are committed to providing inclusive services to LGBT people, but LGBT people do not necessarily know that this is the case. Delegates heard from leading organisations who have found that enabling LGBT people to shape and engage with services has meant more efficient services and a greater uptake.
2011 has seen various research emerge specifically highlighting LGB workplace issues. Delegates heard from organisations who have undertaken this research to discover their findings around bullying and harassment and career choices.
Being a gay woman can lead to unique challenges and opportunities in the workplace. Delegates heard from leading women from a range of sectors who have explored how their sexual orientation impacts on their leadership style and approach.
This session identified the issues and difficulties in setting up mentoring programmes and provided solutions and best practice examples to allow delegates to successfully take mentoring forward in their organisation in 2012.
Highlighted as an area for improvement in the Workplace Equality Index, Stonewall launched a workplace guide on procurement in 2011. This session demonstrated how employers can encourage their suppliers to embed good diversity practice.
As the customer facing element of an organisation frontline staff are key in projecting and delivering effective service to the public, yet are often neglected when it comes to training and raising awareness of LGBT service user issues. This session looked at ways of engaging these staff members so that they are adequately equipped to deal with a diverse service user.
