It is sometimes assumed by health care professionals, policy makers, and patients that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGB and T) people do not have unique health needs as a consequence of their sexual orientation or gender identity. This, however, is not the case. Our research shows that LGB and T Scots are being let down by health services which often see sexual orientation and gender identity purely as sexual health issues. As a result hundreds of thousands of LGB and T people are in dire need of better support from health care professionals.
