Youth Leaders

Youth Leaders are volunteers aged 22 and over who provide campaign mentoring to Youth Volunteers as part of the Stonewall Youth Volunteering Programme.

Youth Leaders are a key part of the Stonewall Youth Volunteering Programme providing support to the young people Stonewall works with as well as acting as role models.  Each Youth Leader supports 2 Youth Volunteeers over a period of six months.  The six month periods are from March to August and then from August to February each year so we recurit new Youth Leaders in January and June.   Youth Leaders are given 6 hours training to prepare them for the role and are matched to Youth Volunteers.  Youth Leaders and Youth Volunteers communicate at least once a fortnight via email and/or phone.  Youth Leaders give the young people advice and guidance with their campaigns- which range from designing and displaying posters to delivering workshops in schools and sitting on local authority anti-bullying groups- and help them stay on track and focussed.  The Youth Leaders are a crucial part of Stonewall’s work with young people- ensuring that the young people who volunteer for us are well supported and that they are effective advocates of the Stonewall messages.

We welcome Youth Leader applications from anyone aged 22 and over living in England.  Stonewall works with a wide range of young people and we would like see similar diversity reflected in our Youth Leaders.  It is important that the Youth Volunteers have the opportunity to engage with a wide range of adult role models so whatever your background or interest in the programme please get involved.

Training

In order to become a Youth Leader you will need to attend two training sessions at Stonewall's offces in Waterloo. You will also need to attend a meeting with the young people you will be supporting. The dates of these sessions will be confirmed in December 2010 and if you have submitted an application form before this point we will contact you in January 2011 to verify that you can attend the training sessions. Unfortunately, if you're unable to attend the sessions we would not be able to take forward your application at that time but could consider you for a later intake of Youth Leaders.
Please tick below to verify that you understand it is essential you can attend all three sessions and that if you find you cannot after we have confirmed the dates you will unfortunately not be able to join the programme at that time.
