Stonewall joins forces with G-A-Y and Ben & Jerry’s to throw Britain’s largest party to celebrate marriage equality on Friday 28 March. The event will take place at Heaven nightclub in London ahead of the first same-sex marriages on Saturday 29 March. Ben & Jerry’s will join the celebration where they will scoop their special marriage equality ice-cream, Apple-y Ever After.
Live screens in the club will countdown the minutes and seconds until midnight when party-goers will witness history being made as marriage equality becomes a reality in England and Wales.
The moment will be celebrated at midnight with a wedding cake and confetti with all attendees invited to join Stonewall, Ben & Jerry’s and G-A-Y founder Jeremy Joseph for a souvenir on-stage photo to mark the occasion.
Stonewall’s Acting Chief Executive Ruth Hunt said: ‘On 29 March history will be made as every lesbian, gay and bisexual person will be equal under the law for the very first time. That’s a significant moment in our history and something worth celebrating. We’re incredibly excited to be able to mark this special moment with G-A-Y and Ben & Jerry’s.’
Jeremy Joseph, founder of G-A-Y said: ‘G-A-Y is so proud to be doing this night with Stonewall & Ben & Jerry's - this is a part of gay history. As an old romantic I also get very excited when I hear about couples who have met at G-A-Y, so if anyone actually proposes on the night & gets photographed with the cake & confetti, then that will be the icing on the equality wedding cake!’
‘We've always believed in equality, plain and simple,’ said Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. ‘We’ve proudly stood to support marriage equality with our business in the U.S., in Europe, and most recently in Australia in hopes that everyone has the chance to live Apple-y Ever After!’
GayStarNews will also be joining the celebration as media partners for the event.
Doors at the event will open at 11pm and entry is free to those with wristbands, available at G-A-Y bar on Old Compton Street. Find out more on Facebook.
