Stonewall is renowned for its campaigning and lobbying on equality for lesbian, gay and bisexual people. Since it was founded in 1989, major successes have included lifting the ban on lesbians and gay men serving in the armed forces and the repeal of Section 28. More recently Stonewall has been instrumental in securing both civil partnerships and a criminal offence of incitement to homophobic hatred.
Stonewall now works with a wide range of partners including over 600 major employers. Our other work includes the Education For All Campaign, to tackle homophobia in schools and colleges; a wide range of information and services; and lobbying on a broad range of policy issues. We have also recently extended our charitable reach to work internationally.
The Stonewall Board is looking to appoint a number of new Trustees. The Board works closely with the Chief Executive and his team to agree the strategy and delivery of the charity’s objectives. Successful candidates will demonstrate significant achievement at a senior level, in the private, public or not-for-profit sectors. Interest is particularly welcome from those who have senior experience in education, international development, the Scottish parliamentary, private, public or non-profit sectors or sales and marketing. Applications from people of black and minority ethnic backgrounds are also particularly welcomed, as these groups are currently under represented on our Board. All appointments will be made on merit.
