We welcome this verdict and urge the judge to take into consideration the homophobic element of this crime when sentencing.
The perpetrators of this homophobic crime were educated in Britain's education system within the last five years - demonstrating how much more needs to be done to tackle homophobia in our schools before it festers into violence on the streets.

I am a project worker with a youth LGBT group and my role is to engage schools in equality and social justice for young lgbt people every year we send over 40 letters to schools letting them know about the project. in the last two years we haven't received any word of any homophobic issues. so there is no problem in our schools or the schools are still homophobic themselves. it is very frustrating as we have equality acts and education acts yet these seem to be ignored and resigned to ignorance. we will struggle on....
