A personalised outgoing voicemail message from a tennis legend, a decadent afternoon tea at the emporium of a celebrity cake maker and an intimate backstage meet and greet with one half of Australian duo Kath & Kim after a performance of her latest show are just three of the of the lots up for grabs in this year’s Stonewall silent auction.
The silent auction – which raises funds for Stonewall’s Education for All programme that tackles anti-gay bullying in Britain’s schools – is open to bids from everyone.
Among the auction prizes you can bid for in the silent auction are a tailored message from Martina Navratilova for your voicemail message. And if you’re keen to hear from the sporting man of the year, there’s a lot from Gareth Thomas, who’ll speak at an event for this lot’s lucky winner. If you prefer music then there’s also the opportunity to join Paul Gambaccini for an early three course dinner followed by personal access to the live broadcast of his Radio 2 show America's Greatest Hits.
Or if food and drink are more to your taste there are three special lots; a natural wine tasting for up to twelve people in the comfort of your own home with France's first female Master of Wine, Isabelle Legeron. The second is a gourmet treat for eight from Eric Lanlard, Master Patissier, at his emporium. Finally for foodies there’s an incredible six-course tasting dinner for six people in your very own kitchen, cooked by the UBS Executive Chef. You won’t need to lift a finger as this lot even includes a uniformed butler to wait on you hand and foot.
Adrenaline junkies are catered for too, with a lot for a day on the trophy winning racing-yacht Night Owl. The entirely gay-skippered and crewed yacht will take you on a trip on the Solent around Cowes.
Theatre lovers can bid for tickets for the forthcoming show, Holding the Man complete with a backstage meet and greet with the cast including Jane Turner, who’s making her West End debut following her international success as Kath in Kath & Kim.
‘There’s something for everyone in this year’s silent auction,’ says Michaela Greene, Stonewall Deputy Director of Fundraising. ‘Money can’t buy some of these lots and each bid will go help grow our Education for All campaign, stamping out anti-gay bullying in our schools. Some bids are for groups of people – so why not buddy up with your friends and send a group bid.’
