Stonewall Mayoral Hustings to take place Saturday 19 April

Ken Livingstone, Boris Johnson and Brian Paddick will all be vying for the pink vote on Saturday 19th April 2008 at Stonewall's Mayoral Hustings.

The event, which takes place at the BFI Southbank between 11am and 12.30 pm, is designed to invite each respective candidate to voice their potential pink policies, as well as encouraging the lesbian and gay community of London to use their vote.

The Mayoral Election takes place less than two weeks after the event, on May 1st, so this is an opportunity for all Londoners with an interest in the gay community to engage with the pressing pink issues. There'll also be a chance to quiz the prospective Mayors in what promises to be a lively question and answer session. Other candidates have been invited.

Ben Summerskill, Stonewall Chief Executive, says: 'The Mayor of London holds powers which can make the lives of over a million lesbian, gay and bisexual Londoners better - or worse. Policing, transport safety, culture, community relations - they all matter to us. With a close race in prospect, the pink vote is one the candidates dare not ignore. This is our chance to make our voice heard loud and clear.'

Tony Grew, Editor of PinkNews.co.uk - Stonewall's media partner for the event - says: 'The gay vote will be vital in this election, because every vote is vital. In every election for Mayor of London, second preference votes have decided the winner.'

The Hustings event is free to attend and open to everyone.  You will require a ticket for admission.  Please RSVP to jenny.stevens@stonewall.org.uk / 020 7593 1861.  Please let us know of any access requirements you may have when applying for a ticket.
