Ruth Hunt, the Chief Executive of Stonewall, has been shortlisted for the Rising CEO Star in the Charity Times Awards. Stonewall is the leading charity for lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality.
Ruth was appointed Chief Executive of Stonewall in 2014, having worked in senior positions in the charity since 2011.
Under her leadership, Stonewall added the word ‘acceptance without exception’ to its logo to recognise the way in which the charity now works to ensure equality is available to all.
In line with this mission, Ruth spearheaded a commitment to campaign for trans equality. Stonewall now works in partnership with a number of organisations and individuals to help amplify the voices of trans people and bring their issues to the political agenda.
Ruth has also worked in partnership with faith leaders and organisations over the past year to create new platforms for LGBT people of faith and to dispel the myth that religion and LGBT identities are mutually exclusive.
Stonewall now also works closely alongside the international development sector to help ensure that LGBT people are not left behind during the design and delivery of development programmes.
Ruth said: ‘It’s an honour to be the Chief Executive of Stonewall and to work with a team of people who are so dedicated to achieving our mission. Everyone at Stonewall is committed to achieving acceptance without exception for every lesbian, gay, bi and trans person, both here and abroad and I am very proud to be their Chief Executive.’
In 2015 Ruth became a trustee of Shelter, the homelessness and housing charity, where she has provided guidance on developing the organisation’s campaigning strategy on housing and homelessness.
This year’s winners will be announced at the Charity Times Awards Gala Dinner & Ceremony on 28 September 2016 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, London.
