Free teacher training for schools with a faith character

Help us examine homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying in schools with a faith character, or a majority faith student body.


Seven in 10 primary school teachers hear homophobic language in school (Stonewall Teachers' Report, 2014), and 86 per cent of lesbian, gay and bi young people in secondary school hear the phrases "that's so gay" or "you're so gay" (Stonewall School Report, 2017).

On average, eight in 10 teachers have not had any specific training on how to tackle homophobic, biphobic or transphobic bullying. Teachers who work in faith and church schools report specific challenges in working with their local communities and institutions, requiring targeted materials and support.

Homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying is bullying that is based on prejudice or negative attitudes, beliefs or views about lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people. It may be targeted at pupils who are, or who are perceived to be, lesbian, gay, bi or trans.

It can also suggest that someone or something is less worthy because they identify as, or are perceived to be, LGBT. Homophobic bullying is often targeted at pupils who have lesbian, gay or bi family members, and pupils who do not conform to gender stereotypes or are seen to be ‘different’ in some way.

If your school would like to be part of the project focusing on tackling homophobia, biphobia and transphobia (HBT) in Catholic, Church of England, Jewish and Muslim schools, fill out the form below.

We are particularly looking to work with schools that haven’t done much or any work on tackling HBT bullying and language, as well as non-faith schools with majority faith student bodies.
