Education for All

Challenging homophobic bullying in Britain's schools.

Education for All is a national campaign tackling homophobia and homophobic bullying in schools across Britain.

The Education for All campaign works in a coalition with over 70 organisations including government departments, local authorities, unions, voluntary and community organisations, children and LGB groups.  Together we work to develop and implement a Great Britain-wide action plan to address the problem.

Education for All provides tools, guidance and confidence to tackle homophobic bullying in schools.  We deliver these primarily through our website, research, annual conferences, engagement with Local Authorities through our Education Champions programme and working with young people through the Stonewall Youth Volunteering Programme.

The main successes of our work since 2005 are:

  • Spell It Out  DVD
A 17 minute teacher training DVD supported by the Mayor of London which in 2007 was distributed to every secondary school in England

  • Education for All Conference
2 July 2010, The British Library, Central London
    Register your interest now.
  • Stonewall Youth Event
The third annual Gay Youth Event took place on Saturday 6 June 2009 at the Greater London Authority. The event was free and open to any young LGB person between 16 and 25. For more information and to be informed about the next Youth Event, email education@stonewall.org.uk.

  • DCSF guidance
Stonewall was commissioned to write this guidance together with EACH. The guidance is part of the DCSF's Safe to Learn suite and a primarily web-based resource. It provides guidance on tackling homophobic bullying for teachers, senior school management teams and school governors.

  • Education Champions
Education Champions was launched in 2008. It is a membership programme for local authorities which will receive bespoke support in how to help their local schools prevent and tackle homophobic bullying.

  • Youth Volunteering Programme
Stonewall's Youth Volunteering Programme was launched in 2008 and puts young people between the age of 16 and 25 at the heart of the campaign by providing them with the skills and confidence to lead change.

  • Some people are gay, get over it!
In 2007, Stonewall developed this bold and powerful slogan against homophobic bullying together with 150 secondary school students . To order posters, postcards and stickers with the slogan, complete our online resource request form.
