Stonewall Cymru welcomes Government Investigation

Education Minister to launch an investigation after Catholic Education Service urges schools to support anti equal marriage petition.

Welsh Education Minister Leighton Andrews confirmed last night that he would be launching an investigation after the Catholic Education Service wrote to its schools urging them to support an online petition opposing equal marriage.

“We are pleased that the Minister has taken such swift action on this potential safeguarding issue” said Andrew White, Director of Stonewall Cymru “if any school in Wales has been involved in promoting this it would be a shocking breach of their duty of care.  No school, faith or otherwise, should be involved in such a live political issue, particularly in a way that demeans gay pupils.”
