It is sometimes assumed by health care professionals, policy makers, and patients that lesbian, gay, bisexual (LGB) people do not have unique health needs as a consequence of their sexual orientation or gender identity. This, however, is not the case. Our research shows that LGB people in Wales are being let down by health services which often see sexual orientation and gender identity purely as sexual health issues. As a result hundreds of thousands of LGB people are in dire need of better support from health care professionals.
