LGB groups offer peer group support, the friendship and help of someone in the same situation and experiencing similar issues, to address the feelings of isolation and difficulties associated with 'coming out' and dealing with discriminatory social attitudes. The essential principles and functions of these groups are similar to other peer group organisations, such as Gingerbread, the support organisation for lone parent families.

The Dyn Project works across Wales to support men who experience domestic violence.
It gives support to male victims across Wales by providing someone to listen without judgement. The helpline staff can also help find services to assist callers in their local area. The helpline is totally confidential and free to call - 0808 801 0321
Welsh Women’s Aid s the national umbrella organisation representing local Women's Aid Groups situated throughout Wales. Their member groups provide direct services for women and children who have experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse. They can offer advice/refuge to women in heterosexual or lesbian / bisexual relationships if they are escaping or are affected by domestic abuse.

Dyfed Powys Police have specially trained Hate Crime Support Officers spread throughout the force to help victims of all hate crime. They work with police officers to ensure early detection and provide additional support to the victim including identifying measures to reduce the likelihood of becoming a repeat victim. The training of the Hate Crime Officers included talking to members of minority communities about their experiences of hate crime.

In Wales in 2010 Victim Support developed a partnership project with Stonewall Cymru to encourage more victims and witnesses of homophobic and transphobic hate crime, whether they are ‘gay or straight’, to access Victim Support¹s enhanced support service. The It’s No Joke project has ensured that Victim Support staff and volunteers understand some of the issues and support needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people who experience hate crime. Victim Support is a national charity of trained volunteers who provide free, non-judgmental and confidential support to a victim and their family whether or not the crime has been reported to the Police. They can provide emotional support, practical help with changing locks etc, witness/victim support in court and assist in claiming Criminal Injuries Compensation.
