Since October 2001 the Beyond Barriers project has produced a range of high quality, accessible and innovative resources on issues of importance to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding, the Beyond Barriers project will end on 31 October 2004. However, the Beyond Barriers website will be available over the next 2 years and all of the resources produced by the project can be accessed here. On this page:
"first out: report of the findings of Beyond Barriers survey of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Scotland" - Lynsey Morgan, Nikki Bell - 2003 first out is the report of Beyond barriers ground-breaking study into the needs, experiences and concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Scotland. This research, the first of its kind in Scotland, has provided essential qualitative and quantitative data in a range of key areas, including parenting, hate crimes and health. "Diverse Communities, Active Lives: a guide to community involvement for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people" - Lynsey Morgan - 2004 Diverse Communities, Active Lives is a comprehensive guide about volunteering and community participation for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender and volunteer involving organisations. "Linking Scotland, Planning Futures: report of Beyond Barriers national conference on the needs of LGBT people in rural and remote Scotland" - Beyond Barriers - 2004 In September 2003, 120 people took part in Scotland's first national conference on the needs of LGBT people in rural areas across Scotland. This is the report of the findings of the event. "Transgender: understanding the issues" - Lynsey Morgan - 2004 This booklet explores some of the key issues faced by people across the transgender spectrum and seeks to challenge some of the misconceptions held about transgender people. "Participatory Appraisal Transgender Research" - Nick Laird, Laura Aston - 2003 This is a report on the findings of three qualitative research workshops, which is part of a range of initiatives being undertaken to better understand the health needs and experiences of transgender people in Scotland by the INCLUSION Project. "LGBT Connections: A Directory of Scottish Organisations" - Beyond Barriers - 1st edition 2003, 2nd edition 2004 LGBT Connections is a directory containing over 200 entries for organisations across Scotland (and the UK) who are working with LGBT people or are interested in engaging with LGBT issues. Funded by the Scottish Executive over 3 years, the directory is now in it's 2nd Edition and is also available to view online through the Directory section of this website. "Be Empowered" - anti-discrimination postcard series The Be Empowered postcards series aims to challenge homophobia, biphobia, transphobia and heterosexism - encouraging and empowering people to take a well-informed stand against hate and prejudice. "Exploring Biphobia: A Report on Participatory Appraisal Research Workshops in Glasgow and Edinburgh" - Nick Laird, 2004 This is a report on the findings of two qualitative research workshops, which were undertaken by Beyond Barriers and the INCLUSION Project to better understand the experiences of bisexual people in Scotland. "Mapping LGBT Scotland: report of Beyond Barriers survey of Scotland’s LGBT sector" - Nick Laird, Lynsey Morgan, Nikki Bell - 2004 To date, there has been little significant data collected about the activities, location or needs of LGBT community organisations or about mainstream agencies working with Scotland’s LGBT communities. In view of this, Beyond Barriers aimed to develop and conduct a research study to enable us to create a detailed map of organised LGBT activity in Scotland. Mapping LGBT Scotland is the result of this research. "Community Engagement with LGBT Mental Health Service Users in the South Side of Glasgow" - Nick Laird - 2004 This report details the results of the INCLUSION Project's Demonstration Project in the South Side of Glasgow, which sought to engage with LGBT mental health service users.
