LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. Over the past few years, many LGB organisations have broadened the scope of their work to include the issues and concerns of transgender people. This change reflects an acknowledgement that sexism and gender stereotyping have a powerful effect on the social and legal treatment of LGB as well as transgender people. It also reflects the growing strength and maturity of the LGBT rights movement.
