The Workplace Equality Index is Britain’s leading tool for employers to measure their efforts to tackle discrimination and create inclusive workplaces for lesbian, gay and bisexual employees. Since 2005 more than 750 major employers have taken part in the Index, using Stonewall’s criteria as a model for good practice.

We are delighted to announce that the criteria and guidance for the Workplace Equality Index 2013 are now available to download. This will help you plan your submission to Britain’s definitive diversity benchmarking exercise, recognising your progress in creating LGB-inclusive workplaces.

Online submission

The Index must be completed online. Submissions will open online in June 2012 and close on 14 September 2012. Please ensure you have submitted your online questionnaire and all accompanying evidence by 5pm on this date - this deadline is final and Stonewall is unable to accept any submissions after this date.

Members of the Diversity Champions programme will be sent a username, password and link to the online system to complete an official online submission. Participants will also be sent a 3-digit code for the staff feedback questionnaire – instructions on this will be included with the email.

Top tips on completing your Workplace Equality Index submission.

1. Familiarise yourself with the guidance thoroughly to make sure you understand what the Index is looking for, and continually refer back to it when completing the Index.

2. Make sure you submit evidence when asked for it, and label each piece of evidence with the question number so that it’s clear which question it relates to in order to receive full credit for your work.

3. Try to submit as much electronic evidence as possible, and if you are submitting hard copy evidence, keep it to a minimum.

4. We recommend you nominate a lead person to complete the Index but ensure the submission process involves colleagues from employee network group, diversity leads, procurement team and senior champion where relevant.

5. To submit formally and receive an official score and rank you must complete the Index through our online system.
