What is multiple discrimination?

Most of us don't belong to one community but several. We have multi-faceted identities - being Black and gay, or disabled and transgender and a woman.

The different aspects of our identity are a source of pride and strength. But they can also make us the target of prejudice on more than one level. For example, a Black gay man might experience homophobia from some parts of the Black community, racism from some parts of the gay community, and racism and homophobia from everyone else! This is known as multiple discrimination.
