To celebrate gay dads, and the role dads play in gay people’s lives, Stonewall has been running a social media competition to say ‘Thanks, Dad!’ for Father’s Day, with support from Coronation Street star (and dad of two) Charlie Condou, and London's Madame Tussauds. Lesbian, gay and bisexual people were asked to tell us what their dads have done to support them, while gay dads and dads of gay young people were asked what they do to support their children.
On Father’s Dav (17 June), Charlie Condou and Stonewall Chief Executive Ben Summerskill selected the winning story, from Twitter user Sibster008, who tweeted: ‘Thanks Dad for telling me that my crush on Sigourney Weaver was just one more thing we had in common! Legend.’ Siobhan wins a fantastic 'Day out with Dad' for four, courtesy of Madame Tussauds.
Thank you to everyone who entered. Stonewall has worked hard for many years to make sure all parents are supported and celebrated, whatever their sexual orientation. We have a huge range of resources about parenting. If you need more information, call our InfoLine on 08000 50 20 20.
