A forced marriage is where one or both of the people involved are forced into a marriage against their will and without their permission. It is conducted without the consent of one or both people, and pressure or abuse is used.
Lesbian, gay and bisexual people can experience forced marriage. They may experience emotional pressure to get married, for example being made to feel that their sexual orientation brings shame on the family.
