Senior Team

  • Ruth Hunt Chief Executive


Ruth is Chief Executive, having worked in senior positions at Stonewall since 2011. Ruth has overseen the rapid growth of Stonewall’s public affairs and education teams as well developing the infrastructure of Stonewall Scotland and Stonewall Cymru. She has successfully led the development of the organisation’s groundbreaking policy, campaigning and research outputs both here and abroad.

Ruth attended St. Hilda’s College, Oxford where she studied English and was elected President of Oxford Student Union. Prior to Stonewall, Ruth worked at the Equality Challenge Unit where she led work advising Higher Education Institutions on sexual orientation and gender identity equality. Ruth is a Marshall Memorial Fellow.  

In 2013, Ruth was voted the fifth most influential LGBT person in Britain in The Independent’s Pink List. 

  • Cathryn Wright Managing Director


Cathryn is the Managing Director and responsible for Stonewall’s operational, fundraising and business development functions.  She also leads on Stonewall’s business planning and strategy development alongside the Chief Executive and the board.

Cathryn originally trained as a chartered accountant and insolvency practitioner. She moved to a career in the voluntary sector a decade ago and has held senior finance and operations positions in several charities including Contact a Family and the London Symphony Orchestra.

Cathryn is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.


  • Jan Gooding (Chair)


Jan is the group brand director at Aviva, the sixth largest insurance group in the world operating in 15 markets with 33 million customers.

Previous marketing roles have included working at British Gas and BT, and she also co-founded two successful marketing consultancies; antennae and BLUEdOOR, with clients ranging from Diageo and Barrett Developments to Unilever.

Jan is a Fellow of the Marketing Society, a member of WACL (Women in Advertising and Communication London), is a regular judge for industry awards and was ranked 21 in Top 50 Outstanding in Business list published in the FT in October 2013.

  • Peter Havelock


Peter is a Partner in IBM’s management consulting division (Global Business Services). He leads IBM’s Finance and Risk consulting work in the Insurance industry across Europe.

Peter graduated with an MA in Economics from Selwyn College, Cambridge, and then trained as an accountant at Legal & General. He has 20 years experience in the insurance industry and has been a financial management consultant for the last 15 years.

Peter takes a leading role in IBM’s LGBT community, as a member of IBM’s Global LGBT Council and previously as Executive Sponsor of the UK LGBT Network Group, and Chair of the European LGBT Council. As well as being a Trustee and the Treasurer of Stonewall, he is a Trustee of the Choral Foundation at the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace.

  • Laura McAllister


Laura is Professor of Governance at the University of Liverpool’s School of Management and co-director of the Heseltine Institute of Public Policy and Practice. Laura is a former Wales International footballer with 24 caps. She is currently Chair of Sport Wales and a Board member of UK Sport, the Welsh Football Trust and the Institute of Welsh Affairs.

Laura was educated at the London School of Economics and Cardiff University.  Laura’s principal academic interest is devolution. She holds honorary degrees from the Universities of Bangor, Cardiff and Glamorgan/South Wales.

  • Sheldon Mills


Sheldon is the Senior Director of Mergers at the Competition and Markets Authority where he is responsible for UK merger control enforcement.  He is a qualified solicitor and prior to joining the CMA he practiced law at King & Wood Mallesons counselling a range of UK and international clients in antitrust and competition law. 

Sheldon holds undergraduate and postgraduate law degrees from King’s College, London and was born and raised in Cardiff, Wales. 

  • Lisa Pinney


Lisa is Area Manager for Staffordshire, Warwickshire and West Midlands at the Environment Agency, where she has worked in numerous operational and national roles for 17 years and is Executive Champion for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender diversity. Lisa is a Chartered Waste Manager and a Chartered Environmentalist.

Lisa was made a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for services to equality in the workplace in the 2014 New Years Honours List.

  • Oliver Rowe


Oliver is co-founder of Belong, a communications agency that creates employee engagement campaigns for some of the UK’s leading businesses.  

Prior to Belong, Oliver spent seven years at the creative agency BDA, where he founded and ran BDA’s communication division. 

Oliver is a member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, and regularly chairs award juries for EVCOM, the Event and Visual Communications Association.
